Internet Policy as of February 20, 2011 – Annual General Meeting

DISCLAIMER STATEMENT

A. The Burns Lake Public Library has no control over the information on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. As with other library materials, restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent / legal guardian.

B. Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete or current information, as is also true of books, periodicals, and other information sources. Library users need to be alert, questioning the validity of the information and the credentials of the information provider.

INTERNET USERS

A. Patron users are required to be in good standing (ie. no outstanding books, fines and / or bills).

B. Non-patron users must show photo identification before using the computers.

C. All children 12 years of age or younger require adult (19 years of age or older) supervision. All users must check in with the library staff each time they use the computer for Internet access. Accidental access to questionable sites must be reported to the Librarian immediately.

D. The rules regulating use of the computer in the library are posted and users agree to them by checking in. Willful disregard of these rules will be grounds for suspension of the privilege of using the computers and access to the Internet, and may also be grounds for local, provincial or federal prosecution. The Library does a periodic perusal of the Internet History.
