Workshop on Older Adult Research Participation in Northern BC

Our lab at the University of Northern British Columbia, called the Centre for Technology Adoption for Aging in the North (or CTAAN), is conducting a study where we are trying to understand older adult participation in research in Northern BC. Specifically, we are looking into what can help older adults to participate in research in Northern BC, and what prevents older adults in Northern BC from participating in research.

We are planning some workshops, where we want to learn about what can both help and prevent older adults from participating in research. These workshops will involve fun activities and conversations as well as opportunities to give feedback.

We will also share about our research which our lab has been working on. Our lab specializes in research where we investigate how innovative new technologies may be able to help support older adults. We will share about some of the projects we have been working on, including the DREAM (Dementia Resources for Eating, Activity, and Meaningful Inclusion) project.

The workshop will take 3 hours from start to finish. Throughout the workshop, we will have snacks and coffee/tea. Everyone who participates in the workshop will receive a $35 gift card. In addition, we will bring door prizes to give out. These workshops are free to attend, and we will not profit commercially. We intend to use the findings from these workshops to inform our development of an advisory group and share our learnings with others.

Prince Rupert: September 17, 2024, 9:30am-12:30pm, Prince Rupert Library
Terrace: September 17, 2024, 3:30pm-6:30pm, Rich McDaniel Room in Terrace Sportsplex
Kitimat: September 18, 2024, 12:30pm-3:30pm, Kitimat Legion
Smithers: September 19, 2024, 9:30am-12:30pm, Smithers Legion
Burns Lake: September 19, 2024, 3:30pm-6:30pm, Burns Lake Public Library
